Known globally as ‘Ambassadors of Elegance,’ Longines brand ambassadors embody the ethos and spirit of the brand and have established reputations of excellence in their respective fields.
Today, in honour of International Women’s Day, HOT recognizes some of the prominent and influential women who have lent their names and faces to the Longines brand and who continue to inspire others on a daily basis.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
One of the first Longines Ambassadors of Elegance is former Miss World and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Often heralded as one of the most beautiful women in the world, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan first represented the Longines name in 1999 and has been associated with the maison ever since. Amongst her long list of accomplishments, Aishwarya is a UNAID Goodwill Ambassador and has also launched her own foundation to benefit those in need. In 2012, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was awarded the honor of ‘Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters’ by France and is possibly one of the most widely known and recognized ambassadors of the Longines brand.
Arina and Dina Averina
19-year old twin sisters Arina and Dina Averina are the youngest Longines Ambassadors of Elegance. The rhythmic gymnasts have both earned acclaim at the highest levels in their field, with Dina winning the gold and Arina achieving 5th place in the 2011 Russian Chinese Youth Games. Since then, the dynamic duo have participated and won honours at events such as the 2015 Corbeil-Essones International Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition, the 2016 International tournament in Lisbon and the 2016 Grand Prix Final in Eilat. In 2017, The twins won medals at the World Games in Wroclaw and Dina became the new All-round champion at the 35th Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championships in Pesaro, where her sister Arina claimed the silver medal. Longines was also the Official Partner and Timekeeper at this prestigious event.
Chi Ling Lin
Longines Ambassador of Elegance since 2006, Chinese model, TV presenter and actress Chi Ling Lin has made a name for herself in the world of Asian television and film. Starting her stellar career as a model, Chi Ling Lin debuted on the big screen in 2008, starring the John Woo film, ‘Red Cliff’. In addition to her other acting roles, Chi Ling Lin has also published several written works and is a lecturer for Performing Arts at the Hwa Kang Academy of Arts and an Art Ambassador of the Taipei Art Museum and the Golden Horse Film Festival week. Chi Ling Lin also won the numerous awards for her acting and modelling, and was also named Best Fashion Icon in 2007 and Most Influential Charity Icon in 2009.
Chi Ling Lin is actively involved in several charitable endeavours and is the spokesperson for the P&G Breast Cancer Prevention Association ‘6 Minutes for Life’ initiative and World Vision Aids Orphan Hope Project amongst others.
Swiss artistic gymnast Giulia Steingruber is the first Swiss female gymnast to ever win an Olympic medal, an honour she claimed when she won the Bronze medal on vault in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. She has also been European all-around champion in 2015, European champion for vault in 2013, 2014, and 2016 and for floor in 2016.
Giulia also represented Switzerland in the 2012 Summer Olympics and placed third on the vault at the 2017 World Gymnastics Championships in Montreal.
Her numerous European and international awards and medals at the early age of just 23 make her a fitting Ambassador of Elegance for Longines, a brand known around the world for its dedication to exceptional performance.
Longines Ambassador of Elegance, Ingeborga Dapkunaite hails from an era when elegance really did reign supreme. One of the oldest Longines ambassadors, her list of accolades is worthy of note. With a career encompassing film, television and the stage, the Lithuanian actress is a fitting representative of the brand that values performance above all else.
Ingeborga has won awards across the former Soviet Union for her films and has also served on the the jutries at the Berlin, Cannes, Cairo and Venice International Film Festivals. She has also acted as Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Hospice Fund ‘Vera’.
An accomplished equestrian champion since 1998, Jane Richard is another Swiss Ambassador of Elegance for Longines. Winning medals for her skill in Europe and across the world, Jane now manages the La Madonnina club in Italy with her husband. The club houses world-class stables which are open to riders of all levels, bring the magic of the sport to hundreds of enthusiasts from around the world.
Despite being born into a family with no links to the equestrian world, Jane’s talents were quickly evident and she has been a fine ambassador for Longines since joining the ranks of the Ambassadors of Elegance on 2003.
Best known for her portrayal of Rose opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in the iconic 90’s film Titanic, Kate Winslet is the quintessential Longines Ambassador of Elegance. The winner of numerous awards including an Academy Award for her role in ‘The Reader’ in 2008 as well as multiple Golden Globe Awards, BAFTAs and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards.
Kate Winslet also created the Golden Hat Foundation in 2010. The Foundation is dedicated to the cause of raising funds for children with autism, and Longines has lent its support to the foundation since 2015. In 2013, Kate Winslet was honoured by Queen Elizabeth II as a Commander of the Most Excellentg Order of the British Empire and she received a sstar on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2014.
In 2017, Kate Winslet was presented with one of the 5 numbered watches from the Flagship Heritage by Kate Winslet collection, which had been hand-selected by her during a visit to Longines’ St. Imier facility in 2016. One piece from the collection remains in the Longines Museum while the other 3 were auctioned for the benefit of the Golden Hat Foundation.
An Ambassador of Elegance since 2014, American Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin embodies the spirit of the Longines brand through her outstanding performance and dedication to excellence.
As an elite athlete in the rarified arena of female alpine skiers, Mikaela has already received an Olympic medal, and is a World Champion and World Cup winner in her sport. She has also won the Longines Rising Ski Stars prize on at least three occasions.
Since discovering alpine skiing at the age of 3, Mikaela has won numerous World Cup events, Junior World Championships, the World Championships, two World Cups and the Winter Olympic Games at Sochi in 2014.
Perhaps one of the most noteworthy faces in the world of tennis, and even sport in general, Stefanie, or Stefi Graf shares Longines’ ideals of elegance, excellence and performance. She is a true Ambassador of Elegance, devoting herself to her charitable foundation, Children for Tomorrow which provides help and support for children who have suffered the traumas of war, exile and violence.
In her exceptional tennis career, spanning almost 2 decades, Stefi Graf has won a total of 902 victories includinhg a 22 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic Medal. She is also the only woman player till date to achieve the Golden Slam, winning all 4 Grand Slams and an Olympic Medal in the same year. Stefi retained the No. 1 Women’s Tennis Assocation ranking for a record breaking 377 weeks, and her record remains undefeated to this day. Her skill, grace and elegance, both on and off the court made her the ideal choice to become a Longines Ambassador of Elegance.
Zhao Li Yang
Zhao Li Yang is a Chinese film and television actress who became a Longines Ambassador for Elegance on the occasion of the brand’s 185th anniversary. In addition to her regular appearance on the covers of prestigious magazines, Zhao’s elegance of spirit made her a perfect fit for the historical maison.
With several noteworthy roles under her belt, Zhao has also won many awards for her acting on television and in films, and she was also nominated for the Best Actress Award at the 22nd Shanghai International Television Festival. Zhao Li Yang was also part of Duckweed in 2017, opposite Eddie Peng, another Ambassador of Elegance and Eternal Wave where she starred opposite Aaron Kwok, also a Longines Ambassador of Elegance.
