After the high-profile auction sale of their collaborative timepiece, the Arpal 1, by Christies Geneva in November, 2017, independent watchmaker Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier have decided to once again join hands. The two brands have continued their innovative collaboration and jointly created a set of 4 unique timepieces, which remain un-named.
A Watch With No Name – Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier come together to support medical research
Best of Two Worlds
These four timepieces take the very best that both Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier have to offer, and combine them in to an exceptional piece of horological mastery.
A titanium case, in shades of anthracite grey draws inspiration from the clean lines and contemporary aesthetic of Laurent Ferrier’s favourite sports cars. The founder of the eponymous brand spent some time developing parts for performance automobiles, and even created a noteworthy reputation for himself as a racecar driver, winning third place at the prestigious Le Mans event in 1979. He was driving a Porche 395T.
The case forms an exquisite housing for Urwerk’s self-winding UR5.03 movement which displays the brand’s characteristic wandering hours indication. The wandering hours feature the hours set at the end of 4-rotating arms in groups of 3 hours each, which move along a scale every hour, giving both digital and analog readings of the time, just in case the wearer needs to be twice as sure!
Partnership for Progress
All proceeds from the sale of Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier’s earlier collaborative timepiece, the Arpal 1 at the Only Watch 2017 charity auction, were put towards research into Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The 4 new watches too, will be sold at an auction, possibly later this year, with the proceeds of that sale also being directed towards medical research.
Sometimes ideas come together to create something unimaginable and wonderful. The joint efforts of Urwerk and Laurent Ferrier have resulted not just in timepieces that make us sit up and take note, but also in raising awareness about medical research into curable conditions, making these watches more than worth every penny of their undoubtedly heavy price-tag!
