Ferdinand Berthoud Chronomètre FB 1R.6-1
Evolution of Skill
The Chronomètre FB-1R.6-1, though reminiscent of the earlier Chronomètre Ferdinand Berthoud 1R.7-1 and the original Marine Chronometers for which the brand was historically recognised, showcases several unique and modern details in both its aesthetic presentation and its technical specifications. The case of the time piece is less than 14mm thick and comprises a specially reinforced steel cylinder which houses the movement. Two portholes, at 2 and 11 o’clock provide a clear view of the exquisite calibre movement in action and the two octagonal-shaped side pieces provide a characteristic shape to the case.
The Chronomètre FB-1R.6-1 sets a new, very high bar for the construction of regulator-type displays and features a mostly solid dial instead of the more popular high-up opening through which the tourbillon is visible. The dial is in fact the back of the complication plate providing the regulator-type display.
The dial is nickel-silver and coated with black rhodium. Three small apertures display the hours, power reserve and a hand-engraved pyramid motif, inspired by an openworked astronomical Ferdinand Berthoud clock in the middle of the minutes counter respectively. The hours aperture is offset at 2 o’clock while the power reserve display is a large cut-out. The seconds are visible on the flat inner bezel which is also made of black-rhodium coated nickel-silver.
The strap of the Chronomètre FB-1R.6-1 is made from a single piece of hand-sewn, rolled-edge alligator leather with a titanium folding clasp. Hand-finished to perfection by the master craftsmen at the watchmaker’s own workshops, this limited edition of only 20 watches will set the true connoisseurs apart in a class of their own.
An object of desire for a gentleman of discerning taste and with a flair for subtle extravagance, the Chronomètre FB-1R.6-1 is the epitome of a collector’s item.
