TAG Heuer – the Swiss watch brand is named Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series 2016-2017.
On the eve of the Series opener last week, a joint announcement took place in Dubai between the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and TAG Heuer to herald their new partnership and the appointment of the Swiss watch brand as the Official Timekeeper and Official Watch of the entire Series.
The agreement was announced by Marc Biver, Global Sports Director for TAG Heuer and Agustin Pichot, World Rugby Vice Chairman at a press conference held in the presence of five legends of Rugby Sevens: Karl Tenana, Rob Vickerman, Julien Candelon, Vincent Inigo and Lewis Holland. At the announcement, a Charity Challenge organised by TAG Heuer raised USD 10,000 for the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children – a fitting symbol to kick off the Series and the partnership.
The relationship between TAG Heuer and the World Rugby Sevens was forged in 2015, with an initial partnership for the Cathay Pacific/ HSBC Hong Kong Sevens Tournament. The successful event and the excellent business it generated encouraged TAG Heuer to intensify its profile in the world of rugby and strengthen its links with the Rugby Sevens.
Spanning 5 continents, this the World Rugby Sevens featuring ten tournaments in ten countries around the world — Dubai, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, France and Great Britain — and involving 16 teams will now be on TAG Heuer time. The first luxury Timekeeping brand to enter the world of Rugby Sevens will be represented in all the strategic locations involved in the competition. Apart from TV screens, big screens in the stadium, on field perimeter hoardings and LED screens around the pitch inside the stadium, TAG will also have a presence on the podiums and backdrops during interviews. Rugby Sevens, a more competitive and physical discipline than 15-a-side rugby, is in perfect harmony with the #DontCrackUnderPressure spirit of TAG Heuer. The motto will be the guiding principle behind TAG Heuer operations throughout the season.
