When we think TAG Heuer we think Formula 1, sports watches, Carrera, Monaco and so on. Clearly these collections seem to be the pillars of the brand. However, way back in the 1960s, the Autavia collection was quite popular. At the time, Autavia watches exuded a unique design code, the genesis of which can be found in the name itself- the combination of automobile and aviation. In fact, even before that, in the years from 1933 to 1957, the Autavia was a dashboard instrument used in racing cars and aircraft. The name of this dashboard timer was used for a chronograph wristwatch in 1963. The rest, as they say, is history.
TAG Heuer – The Autavia Collection
Its functionality, timeless style and numerous combinations made the chronograph much-loved. Fast-forward to the present- in 2019 TAG Heuer has launched seven new combinations that reinterpret this classic in a more contemporary form. The design codes of this watch are quite timeless actually- 42 mm stainless-steel, three- hands, a rounded case and bevelled lugs from the 1960s. Pretty much like the clean ‘Heuer’ dials. The bidirectional rotating bezel with a 60-minute scale in black ceramic, blue ceramic or stainless steel give this new interpretation of the Autavia. just the right amount of spunk.
As a nod to the pilot watches of the past, the new Autavia watches have an oversized XL crown that adds to the charm of the watch. Being an integral part of TAG Heuer’s sporty range, the hour markers and hour, minute and seconds hands are coated in SuperLuminova, as legibility is crucial. The smoked dial is available in black, grey or blue, and has a date window at 6 o’clock, all of which feature interchangeable straps. The leather calfskin comes in light or dark brown and a NATO strap is included in all models sold on a bracelet. The straps can all be bought separately and fitted at the comfort of your own home.
These are quite a few options to choose from and we’re sure you’ll hit on the right one that will express your authentic style! We love the way TAG Heuer has used history to forge a path for the future!
What’s more, well the gorgeous Patrick Dempsey is the man back behind the wheel to market the stunning Autavia watches. Kind of like the obvious choice don’t you think?
