As much as anyone would try and deny it, owning a Rolex is still a matter of prestige for many and clearly is the first choice when you plan to kick-start your luxurious watch wardrobe. Know as the crown, be the Daytona or the Yachtmaster, Rolex spells prestige. Today however, we will talk about the fresh and colourful Oyster Perpetual Day-Date’s that the brand has launched this year.
A Fresh New Take on The “Presidents’ watch”
Since its launch in 1956, the Day-Date has been a major innovation – the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock. The indication of the day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages.
Worn by many of the world’s political figures, directors and visionaries, the Day-Date is instantly recognizable, in particular thanks to its emblematic President bracelet, whose evocative name, together with the eminent figures who have worn it, ensured the Day-Date became known as the “presidents’ watch”
The new generation of the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36’s are available in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold with distinctive new dials and gem-set bezels on some versions. So here goes…
Day-Date 36 Everose Gold 128235
I’m starting with this one, since everose gold is a metal of choice for me. The dial on this Day-Date 36 is a dark brown ombré dial which further enhances the striking everose gold. The bold contrast on this Day-Date 36, makes it both, a day and a night watch. The 10 diamond hour markers are in an 18 ct gold settings. However, specific to the Day-Date watches, the diamonds at 6 and 9 o’clock are baguette-cut.
Day-Date 36 Yellow Gold 128238
The second Day-Date 36 is in 18 ct yellow gold. The watch sports a gorgeous royal green dial. Well, Rolex calls it ombré, which means shaded. Personally, I think this Day-Date 36 looks quite regal. Again, the watch adorns 10 diamond hour markers in an 18 ct gold settings with baguette-cut diamonds at 6 and 9 o’clock.
Day-Date 36 White Gold 128349 RBR
Honestly, I couldn’t get my eyes off this one. With a bubblegum or candy floss feel, this Day-Date in 18 ct white gold adorns a soft pink opal dial with shimmering hour markers with Roman numerals VI and IX in 18 ct gold set with diamonds. A gorgeous watch for all you young ladies out there.
Day-Date 36 Yellow gold 128348 RBR
Finally we have another 18 ct yellow gold Day-Date 36, but this one here is fitted with a bright and gorgeous turquoise dial. Just like the soft pink version, this models is also set with diamond hour markers with Roman numerals VI and IX. The bezels on both, the pink and turquoise versions are adorned with 52 brilliant-cut diamonds.
The new versions of the Day-Date 36 are equipped with caliber 3255 that incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Calibre 3255 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3255 extends to approximately 70 hours. This calibre equips the Day-Date 36 for the first time.
Like all Rolex watches, the new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 versions carry the Superlative Chronometer certification, which ensures excellent performance on the wrist. A paragon of robustness and elegance, the Oyster case of the Day-Date 36 is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 meters (330 feet). Needless to say, all these versions of the Day-Date 36 are fitted with a President bracelet in 18 ct gold.
