From vegetarian foods to makeup and home décor to wallpapers, HOT tells you how to kickstart the year with an infusion of ‘Greenery’, Pantone’s Color of the Year 2017.
Described by the Pantone institute as a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew,” Pantone’s Color of the Year – Greenery – is inspired by nature, hope and fresh beginnings. The revitalising shade illustrates the flourishing foliage and lushness of the green environment.
A splash of green
The Pantone Color of the Year is a yellow-based, reassuring green that imbibes its warmth and energy from the sun. “While Serenity and Rose Quartz, the Pantone Color of the Year 2016, expressed the need for harmony in a chaotic world, Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to provide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, Greenery symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Close to nature
With the world getting more and more conscious about protecting the planet, there couldn’t have been a more perfect colour. Says Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s Vice President during an interaction with Forbes, “There’s a growing desire to reconnect with nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe. Greenery is about unity and community – connecting to oneself and others and a higher purpose, nature.”
In an utterly chaotic world, greenery symbolises hope and rejuvenation. It helps slow down our heartbeat, withdraw ourselves from the digital world and breathe. There’s a Japanese concept called ‘forest bathing’. As per the concept, when you feel stressed, one of the best things to do is go walk in the forest. And if you can’t find a forest in the middle of the concrete jungle, bring the hue into your house with various home décor elements, put it on your skin as makeup or wear it on your body as a watch.
