Clearly, the colours blue and green seem to be trending a lot this year. Known to produce survival instruments for the navy, Panerai’s affiliation with the sea is no secret. Hence, it is no surprise that ocean blue seems to be the star colour of the new Luminor series by Panerai.
Blue sun-brushed beauties
Here they are the new blue Luminor Marina – PAM 1028 and PAM 1058. The dials on these watches feature an intense blue colour, enhanced further by a precious sun-brushed finish, a technique that captures and diffuses the light to create subtle flashes and constantly changing effects akin to when the sun’s rays encounter ocean waves. The watches look beautiful but are basically reinterpretations of the silvered dial PAM 977 and PAM 978.
Let’s start with the PAM1058. This steel luminor has a large 44mm blue sun-brushed dial with a steel case and bracelet. In true Panerai style, the dial of this new Luminor Marina has large luminous beige Arabic numerals with a small blue hand at 9 o’clock – the seconds counter. With the classic, unmistakable design of its case and dial, the new Luminor Marina has the metal bracelet with links inspired by the shape of the device which protects the winding crown. The bracelet can be easily be replaced with another strap.
The PAM 1028 is pretty similar to the PAM 1058 except the size of the dial. Also, unlike the PAM 1058 which is water resistant up to 300meters, the PAM 1028 is rated at 100meters. Being 2mm’s smaller, it is relatively slender and sleeker. Both the new blue Marina’s are powered by the in-house, self-winding cal. P.9010 that is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback.
With a three day power reserve the true blue Luminor Marina’s PAM1058 and PAM1028, are priced at INR 530,000 and INR 528,000 respectively.
