Limited to just 50 sophisticated pieces, the 2018 edition of the L.U.C Quattro is a fitting reminder that sometimes, the most simple is the most effective.
The L.U.C Quattro, which debuted in 2005 has been a pillar of the brand’s premium L.U.C range of watches for over a decade. Just in time for Baselworld 2018, last week, Chopard introduced a new version of this iconic and elegant timepiece.
Chopard Limited Edition L.U.C Quattro
The name Quattro comes from the two double barrels of the in-house Manufacture movement, the L.U.C 98.01 L, one of the maison’s originally developed, exceptionally thin movements. The four barrels of the L.U.C 98.01L give the watch an exceptional 9-day (216 hour) power reserve.
The 3.7mm movement is also a certified chronometer and the dial of the new L.U.C Quattro displays the 6 o’clock sub-dial indicating the small seconds and pointer-style date, which is synonymous with Chopard’s L.U.C Quattro watches. The 9-day power reserve is also displayed at 12 o’clock in a 180˚ fan shape.
The dial of the new L.U.C Quattro exudes an understated contemporary chic that will make it an object of desire for a discerning, modern gentleman who understands the power of subtlety. This is a step in a different direction from earlier models of the L.U.C Quattro, which were much more ornamental in terms of finishes and polishing effects.
The vertical silver-toned dial works in complete tandem with the 43mm 18K rose-gold case. The hour-markers are an applied blue, as are the Arabic numerals 3 and 9 on the dial face and the Dauphine-fusée type hands, which are signature of the entire L.U.C collection.
The blue colour is also seen in the unique woven-effect calfskin leather strap which has an alligator lining. The use of these materials and design for the strap of the new L.U.C Quattro marks a first in the history of the L.U.C collection.
This new, pared down version of the L.U.C Quattro speaks volumes in an understated manner, and is sure to make a powerful statement on behalf of its wearer.
HOT Verdict: Silver and gold come together beautifully with the subtlety of blue in this emblematic timepiece
