Uber-chic and ultra-modern, the Louis Vuitton Autumn/ Winter 2016 collections for men and women is inspired by the brand’s stylish heritage.
For this Autumn-Winter 2016 collection, French fashion designer Nicolas Ghesquière unearths the glorious vestiges of a visionary trunk-maker and recasts the creations from the past for today’s tastes. From this endeavour emerges his muse – the modern woman who’s always on the move, and whose elegance springs from her dynamism. Clothes from the women’s collection boast daring cuts and winter-friendly silhouettes. Leather in jackets and pants is juxtaposed with digital prints and structured outfits. Jackets include ones with lapels to fur details, bombers and cropped ones. We love them all.
Louis Vuitton’s accessory collection comprises bags, boots, belts, key chains, sunglasses, scarves and jewellery. While bags range from handbags to boxed clutches, totes and backpacks, the boots are classy with embellishments in black and silver. The ubiquitous LV logo is fused beautifully into the cocktail jewellery range that includes earrings, rings and pendants.A Jacques-Henri Lartigue image – a stack of Louis Vuitton trunks, shadowed by the Tour Eiffel – is the jumping-off point for the Fall 2016 Louis Vuitton menswear collection. It all goes back to the Art Deco era that established an archetypal image of Paris as the art, culture and fashion capital of the world. The collection sports a selection of classic menswear pieces – trench coats, fur coats, tailored suits and sweaters. The key motif of the collection is the Monogram Eclipse, which is a subtle contrast of grey and black shadow tones.Throughout, accessories and clothing work in synergy, borrowing colours and motifs. The range of bags includes Keepall, camera bag, tote, messenger bag, and a backpack shape inspired by Louis Vuitton’s Noé. Colors are subtle, redolent of Paris: graphite grey and black, French navy, a topiary evergreen, Damier shades of brown and a pale, powdery Tuileries laurel.
Keeping Art Deco as the inspiration, the decorative motifs in the collection have evolved from archive trunk stamps and geometric inserts taken from Louis Vuitton blankets. The Annapurna and Karakoram designs are joined by the Satapurna, a new graphic created by Kim Jones.
With such splendid winterwear and accessories to choose from, the avant-garde brand leaves its fans spoilt for choice. Here’s to the most fashionable winter ever!
