Dear readers, that’s not a typo! We really do mean glamping. It’s a new buzzword in the travel segment. Gone are the days when you visited a place, stayed at a hotel and did ‘touristy’ things. Now travel is all about gaining a 360 degree experience. Local culture and indigenous people make a travel experience a memorable one. The experiential travel model is called ‘glamping.’ It involves camping in otherwise inaccessible places with a scenic view and with the added element of luxury.
Glamping – The new experimental travel model
India’s tourism industry has been unable to realise its true potential due to lack of proper infrastructure. The Ultimate Travelling Camp (TUTC) has been formed to develop and offer ‘experiential travel’ for the discerning luxury traveller, with a focus on responsible and sustainable tourism.
TUTC offers luxurious tent stays at beautiful locales, replete with scenic views and top class service.
The sizes of the tents differ. The standard luxurious tent has an area of 896 sq ft comprising one bedroom, bathroom and veranda. The Presidential tents have a surface area of 1088 sq ft comprising a bedroom, a second room cum bedroom, one bathroom and a veranda. The tents are fully air-conditioned and come with lot of amenities.
Camps have a small library in the reception area. Activities available on camps besides various board games are archery, nature walks, birding, village walks, cycling on village trails etc. Guests can enjoy private or al fresco dining experience at the restaurant tents.
TUTC offers 14 tents in Thiksey, 8 tents in Diskit and 12 tents in Kohima. The packages start at Rs 27,000 onward.
