From metallic accessories and textured walls to vibrant throws, HOT speaks to the best interior designers in the industry on home décor tips to decorate your home for the festive season.
Come holiday season, think beyond scented candles and fairy lights in a bottle. Instead, bring the festive cheer to your house with bright, bold colours teamed with metallics, statement brick walls, artistic embellishments paired with wood and colourful throws.
Mixed metal décor
A hint of shimmery silver, rich copper and antique golden bronze can drastically change the look of your living space. “While updating your home decor this season, think less of symmetry and more of stylish comfort. You can mix and match textured surfaces in bright hues with metallic blends in a great way. Embrace the bling by mixing silvers, golds and coppers in your artwork, furniture and accessories,” says Parul Mittal, Director Marketing & Design of Greenlam Industries Ltd. Interior designer Jasmine Jhaveri suggests adding a white faux fur throw on the sofa for the holiday season. “Throw in a few metallic cushions and a knitted cable cushion in red for a dash of colour,” she says.
Into the woods
Antique embellishments paired with wood ups the scale of making your home décor look regal. “When a person into a space wrapped in beautiful wood finishes, there is a sense of luxury and elegance. Adding interesting veneer-enhanced accessories into a home allows endless interior design possibilities. Custom light fixtures, accent furniture pieces, and even ultra-modern wooden rugs are just a few interior accessory ideas that can be created using natural veneer. Placing exotic veneers is an essential element in obtaining an elite design concept. Nothing gives the feel of elegance and luxury quite like wood veneer,” insists Parul.
Indian styled designs and patterns such as ikat drapes, appliqué work, intricate hand-embroidered pillow cases, kalamkari printed fabrics that work as wall art and the eclectic combination of batik and linen take the entire space a notch higher. “If you have contemporary styling at home, add fusion to it by using patterns/floral linens, textured walls, and abstract paintings. Use gold-bronze runners on the dining tables, vases filled with fresh flowers and smart cutlery,” shares interior designer Neetu Arora. Samira Chopra, creative head, Casa Colour, suggests adding colourful throws and cushions on the sofa and armchair to give a vibrant feel to an old room. An interesting DIY way to adorn your furniture is by recycling it to create rugs, poufs and pillow covers that are vibrant and environmental friendly at the same time.
