Why is detox important?
If you feel ‘congested’ from too much food or the wrong kinds of food, you may want to detoxify. If your energy levels are low, if you have been eating an unhealthy, unbalanced diet or smoking excessively, or have increased your alcohol or caffeine intake, it’s time to detox.
What’s a post-party detox diet?
You can do a 1 day fruit detox once in a week to help flush out toxins from your system.
3 rules for a fruit detox
- Eat every two hours
- Drink a total of 1.5-2 liters liquids in the form of water / coconut water / buttermilk through the day
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
- Start the day with papaya, banana, pear or apple, which will keep you full due to their fibre content and prevent acidity.
- In the afternoon, have a mixed fruit salad of vitamin C rich fruits like raspberries, pineapples and oranges along with a slightly starchy fruit like banana and an avocado which supplies some healthy fat in the form of MUFA and vitamin E.
- Have a mixed vegetable soup early in mid-evening, following which you can have another fruit salad at dinner using papaya and red globes, both of which give you a good dose of carotene. You can add pears and kiwi, too.
- Try and include a varied combination of different coloured fruits in your detox as each colour of fruits will contribute to a different antioxidant nutrient.
