Launched in Geneva in 1968, Davidoff Cigars, was deemed a ‘new name and a new philosophy’ in the cigar market. With founder Zino Davidoff at the helm, the brand was continuously searching for new tobaccos and blends, embodying a pioneering spirit that set Davidoff apart from the start.
Over the last fifty years, the Davidoff name has become a symbol for excellence amongst connoisseurs of fine cigars and has had a history replete with astronomical milestones from the launching of unique cigar blends and products to scaling heights of creativity in the industry.
The universally recognizable signature white oval cigar ring which adorns every Davidoff cigar first appeared on the Ambassadrice, the No. 1 and No. 2, which were created by Zino Davidoff himself and hand crafted in Cuba. With the introduction of Mini Cigarillos made with 100% tobacco in 1971 and the Mille Series, which includes the Davidoff 2000, a bestseller for the brand in 1976, Davidoff quickly became a name and force to be reckoned with in the cigar market.
The Davidoff Cigar legacy includes such rewarding and original launches as the Davidoff Special R, the Millennium Blend in 2001 and the Davidoff Diademas Finas, now recognized and the archetypal Davidoff blend, launched to mark the 100th birthday of founder, Zino Davidoff, all painstakingly created by Master Blenders at Davidoff’s own Center for Excellence in the Dominican Republic.
In keeping with the trendsetting nature of its founder, Davidoff collaborated with the Churchill family in 2008 to launch the Winston Churchill series of cigars. The series underwent a reinvention in 2014, and now features its own line of cigar accessories which are sought after by cigar aficionados everywhere. A second series, called the Late Hour is testament to Davidoff’s creativity and vision by being the first cigar blended with tobacco aged in Scottish whiskey casks.
With the Davidoff 702 Selección in 2009, the use of the company’s patented 702 hybrid Ecuadorian wrapper made its debut. This resulted in an achievement that had previously seemed impossible, a smooth cigar that still packed a punch! The 702 was again used in 2017 when the iconic cigar blend was re-imagined.
The past few years have seen Davidoff Cigars make their mark in the art world with their sponsorship of the famous Art Basel event and its Art Initiative. The brnad also launched their first Art Edition In collaboration with Dominican artist Quisqueya Henriques in 2014. The Nicaragua Series, Chef’s Edition and the introduction of lightweight humidors for cigar fans on the move are amongst the most recent feathers in Davidoff’s hat.
To mark this momentous occasion of the brand’s 50th Anniversary, Davidoff Cigars has introduced a special commemorative 50th anniversary main ring, inspired by the original white ring of the brand, which will appear on 5 of the Davidoff’s most exceptional cigars. The Davidoff Signature No. 2, Davidoff Signature 2000, Davidoff Aniversario Special R, Davidoff Aniversario No. 3 and Davidoff Aniversario Entreacto will feature the anniversary ring for a limited time only.
The Anniversary celebrations will continue with a series of specially curated events and specially commissioned cigars and accessories to reflect the philosophy of the brand, and bring the joy of a truly well-crafted cigar to a discerning audience with a taste for the finer things in life.
