The most exclusive vintage cars, the very special A. Lange & Söhne touch and what is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth can only mean one thing – the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
A. Lange & Söhne is not known for its sponsorship of, or affiliation to any kind of event, anywhere in the world, but the renowned watchmaker has proudly partnered with the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este since 2012.
Here’s a little bit about the Concorso d’Eleganza, one of the world’s most anticipated and prestigious events in the arena of classic cars.
• The show was established in 1929, making it one of the oldest of its kind in the world
• Held over 2 days at the Villa d’Este and the Villa Erba on the banks of Lake Como
• 2018 is the the 7th year that A. Lange & Söhne has presented the winner of the ‘Best in Show’ title with a specially crafted A. Lange & Söhne timepiece.
• The cars in the Concorso d’Eleganza are divided into 8 categories that cover a span of 60 years from the 1920’s to the 1980’s
This years’ sought after ‘Best of Show’ title was awarded to a Ferrari 335 Sport from 1958 owned by Andreas Mohringer from Austria. A specially created ‘Como Edition’ of the Lange 1 Time Zone watch in white gold was presented to the winner by Wilhelm Schmid, CEO of A. Lange & Söhne.
Wilhelm Schmid, a self-confessed car aficionado and owner of his own collection of envy-inducing classic cars noted, “Cars and watches have always been far more than their technical characteristics. Behind every invention and every design are passionate people. A car or a watch is also always a personal, aesthetic statement. What could be more suitable than to honour the most beautiful car than with a unique watch? The Lange 1 Time Zone ‘Como Edition’ is our recognition of the time and effort the owner has invested into preserving this automotive masterpiece.”
The exquisite white gold Lange 1 Time Zone ‘Como Edition’ is engraved with the Concorso crest and features a specially designed rotating city ring. In tribute to the location of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, the city ring uses Como to display Central European Time instead of Berlin, which is normally used on the Lange 1 Time Zone to indicate CET.
The Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este took place at the historic hotel Villa d’Este, nestled on the breathtaking, pristine shores of Lake Como in Italy, from May 25th – 27th. The theme of the event this year was Hollywood by the Lake, and the outpouring of glitz, glamour and sophisticated extravagance was a sight to behold. The bevy of cars participating were a sight for sore eyes too and would leave any enthusiast with wide eyes and a dropped jaw!
