Russian pastry artist Olga Noskova’s flawless mirror cakes are so lustrous, you can almost see your reflection in the frosting. As the ultra-glam cake queen continues to break the Instagram, HOT speaks to her about her incredible baking skills.
How did baking happen?
I was an economist, but I wanted to do something that’d give me pleasure every day. So, I decided to learn how to make French Macaron cookies. There was no looking back after that.
Why mirror cakes?
When I was preparing the Macarons, I happened to come across these wonderful cakes. It was undoubtedly love at first sight! The combination of layers, the assembly and decoration of the cake mesmerised me.
Where do you seek your inspiration from?
As a cake artist, I am inspired by the paintings of Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Paul Gauguin and Konstantin Korovin. Everything around me nurtures my creativity.
How long does it take to bake one cake?
It can take anything between a couple of days to a few months! You see, it takes time to nurture the idea of the design and filling. But speaking of the production process, it usually takes about two days to create a cake.
If not a cake connoisseur, what would you have been?
Nothing else. This is my destiny, my providence.
What are your favorites flavours?
My favorite stuffing is citrus. However, I like to constantly experiment with the combination of flavours and ensure they complement with each other.
How are the cakes priced?
The best of ingredients coupled with an unmatched design is what makes my cakes so unique. Their price ranges between 2900 to 5000 Russian rubles per kilogram.
Do you conduct workshops internationally?
I have grandiose plans to feed my cakes to the world. Currently, I’m actively negotiating franchise agreements and planning to open my confectionery in The Dubai Mall in Dubai. I’m also discussing the possibility of organising an exhibition-cum-sale at Piccadilly Circus in London. I’m getting requests for masterclasses from all over the world, and I’ve already started conducting them. I soon plan to conduct online masterclasses for those who cannot attend them in person.
What are the best ingredients that one can use to present a cake?
The trick is to use only natural and quality ingredients. I personally like almond flour, Swiss and Belgian chocolate, puree made from natural fruits, fresh berries, high-quality French dyes and natural cream.
