The Breguet Marine Chronographe 5527 is one of the new watches revealed at Baselworld 2018 this week. Abraham-Louis Breguet, founder of the historical watchmaking maison that bears his name took a particular interest in the area of marine chronometry. His legacy, as ‘Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy’ has been honoured over time by the brand’s iconic Marine collection of timepieces and the Marine Chronographe 5527 is a fitting addition to the line.
Marine Chronograph 5527
All Hands on Deck
With a 42.3mm case in either titanium, 18K rose-gold or 18K white-gold, the Marine Chronographe 5527 has a sapphire crystal caseback that perfectly reveals the automatic manufacture movement.
The Calibre 582QA movement itself is beautifully decorated with a boat deck and has an oscillating weight inspired by the tiller of a boat, keeping the sea-faring history of the brand very much in the forefront.
The Marine Chronographe 5527 indicates the hours through a counter at 6 o’clock for the chronograph, with a minute counter at 3 o’clock and a small seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock. The watch features a date display between 4 and 5 o’clock. The central chronograph hand is inspired by ancient maritime codes and is in gold.
Waves of Colour
Each of the three variants of the Marine Chronographe 5527 are exceptional works of horological artistry. The rose-gold model has a silvered-gold dial decorated with a wave motif, which again brings up images of the sea, the inspiration behind the Marine collection. The motif is also seen on the blue-coloured gold dial of the 18K white gold Marine Chronographe 5527.
The titanium Marine Chronographe 5527 is the first titanium watch in the Marine collection and features a slate-grey dial in gold. The wave motif is also not seen on the titanium model.
All the Marine Chronographe 5527 watches come with a choice of alligator leather or a rubber strap, and are water resistant up to 100m, perfect for a day of sailing the open ocean. The Marine Chronographe 5527 is one we certainly won’t walk past at Baselworld 2018!
