Automobile giant BMW unveiled the BMW R 5 to the public 80 years ago. To mark its 80th anniversary, BMW Motarrad paid a glowing tribute to the legendary bike with the BMW R 5 Hommage. It was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.
Honoring history with BMW R 5 Hommage
The latest entrant from the BMW stable is exemplary of how the old meets new. The motorbike (carefully handcrafted from scratch by Benny and Ronny Noren) has a powerful 500 cc two-cylinder engine with a specially developed super charger. Various elements of the bike such as the valve cover and breastplate of the engine are custom-made based on sketches. Even the frame, fuel tank and rearfender are handcrafted and unique in their own right. The result is a classic and timeless masterpiece that takes pride in its simplicity.
The steering head is, however, slightly more tilted. As far as the overall shape is concerned, the highlight is the oval-shaped tubes. The frame and fuel make a continuous line from the front to the rear wheel hub giving it a dash of elegance and class. The new model has retained the characteristic telescopic fork of the original one. Keeping in sync with the make and design, even the colour is all about simplicity and elegance – black with white pinstripes.
A ride on this spanking new BMW machine is sure to give you the thrill of a lifetime!
