The BMW group’s latest offering at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, one of the most iconic automobile events, was the BMW 2002 Hommage.
A tribute to the original: BMW 2002 Hommage
“Exactly 50 years ago the 02 range kick-started an era of success for BMW. The 2002 sat at the top of the range and was the first series-produced car anywhere in Europe to come with turbo technology,” explained Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior VP BMW Group Design. A striking feature of the coupe is that the wheel arches frame the body like brackets lending it a distinctive look and stature. The long wheelbase, the short overhangs, the compact proportions and the ‘shark nose’ make for sheer driving thrill.
The large spoilers, both at the front and the rear, help optimise airflow around the vehicle and maximise downforce during driving. The light metallic blue tint of the vehicle, in both matt and gloss finish, changes its appearance as the light catches its exterior. So, it’s oscillating between a brightly fluorescent blue and grey. The clear and free-flowing lines of the car’s body give it a sharp and minimalistic silhouette. With regards to its styling, the new machine marries the characteristic, horizontal graphic of the 02 range with modern elements of BMW design.
The newest offering by BMW perfectly merges together modern technology the 50-year legacy of the brand.
