HOT rounds up the most impressive watches at the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie. Here are the best watches of SIHH 2017.
Most commonly known as SIHH, the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie is a luxury watch show in the Swiss city of Geneva that houses some of the most expensive timepieces in the world. This year, the world’s most prestigious trade show threw its doors open to the general public for a day. For the first time ever, regular people got to wander around the area earlier limited to media, retailers and millionaire watch enthusiasts. What’s more, the SIHH 2017 represented exclusive ultra-luxury timepieces as well as accessible timepieces meant for everyday use. Here’s a compilation of 14 watches that impressed us with their extraordinary complications and magnificent craftsmanship.
Best watches of SIHH 2017
Vacheron Constantin Métiers d’Art Copernicus celestial spheres 2460 RT
Inspired by Nicolas Copernicus, this spectacular collection pays tribute to one of humankind’s greatest discoveries: Heliocentrism.
Like mystery object on your wrist, the Urwerk UR-T8 is a transformable watch. Squeeze the two buttons on the side to flip open the case and returns it with a satisfying click to protect the time beneath a titanium shield.
Van Cleef & Arpels new Lady Arpels Papillon Automate watch
Enchanting nature comes to life: Equipped with a particularly sophisticated automaton module, it depicts the random fluttering of a butterfly, moving in accompaniment to the movements of the watch’s wearer.
Roger Dubuis Excalibur Spider Pirelli
Ready to rumble: Epitomising the perfect combo of ruggedness and reliability, this is a model clearly built for life in the fast lane. Available exclusively from Roger Dubuis boutiques, the high-end collection is limited to eight pieces.
Panerai LAB-ID™ Luminor 1950 Carbotech PAM 700
Tapping into the infinite potential of carbon, this new creation is a case with exceptional characteristics – a completely new deep black dial and a movement needing no lubrication, guaranteed for 50 years.
MB&F HM7 Aquapod
The organic jellyfish-inspired design of HM7 Aquapod is counter-balanced by the very mechanical horology within: a central flying tourbillon tops the concentric vertical movement architecture, with indications radiating out from the centre like ripples in a pond. The best part? The aquatic watch also glows in the dark.
A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Decimal Strike
The Zeitwerk Decimal Strike is enriching the successful, unusually designed watch family with a third model that makes time audible in a new way – with its striking mechanism sounds every ten minutes.
Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Artistica mystérieuse
This new Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece, which constitutes a uniquely beautiful way to present the mystery of time and is limited to a series of only five pieces. With its exclusive automatic movement, its architectural dial, and its Gothic design inspiration, the intricately decorated watch immediately stands out from the crowd.
IWC Schaffhausen The Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
This is the brand’s first watch to combine the hour and minute counters with the moon phase in a single subdial. A silver-plated or gold-plated disc depicts the full moon and the rounded, dark blue section of the disc – representing the earth’s shadow – rotates to show the waxing or waning moon.
H. Moser & Cie. Endeavour Centre Seconds Concept
Reach for the stars: With neither logo nor indices, the Endeavour Centre Seconds Concept, with its cosmic green dial representing the very essence of understated classicism taken to the extreme.
Hautlence Playground Labyrinth
An entirely essential yet fundamentally useless object, the Playground collection plays with the idea of absolute disconnect. It is a game of skill worn on the wrist.
Piaget’s Altiplano Feather Marquetry
A glowing tribute to feather marquetry, this colourful watch depicts the legendary peacock with its blue and green plumage, spreading its majestic and radiant tail feathers in order to infuse the wrist with its magnetic strength.
Audemars Piguet Diamond Outrage
A magnetic fusion of spectacular spikes and hypnotic beauty, this cuff watch is presented in two unique 18-carat white gold pieces, fully set either with diamonds or with blue sapphires.
Cartier– Panthere Joueuse de Cartier
How about flaunting Cartier’s house motif – a playful panther that marks the hours and minutes on your wrist? In this fantastically feminine watch, the panther keeps reaching for a tiny diamond ball with its paw. While the ball indicates the hours, the paw shows the minutes.
