The Villeret Quantième Complet GMT, set to make its debut at Baselworld 2018 gives a modern technological upgrade to an horological stalwart.
Blancpain’s Complete Calendar complications have been a characteristic of the brand since the 1980’s, establishing the arrangement as both practical and classic in function and design. With the addition of the GMT function in 2002, and the launch of the Villeret collection Blancpain created the ideal watch for the frequent traveler.
The Villeret Quantième Complet GMT, in addition to Blanpain’s best-selling triple calendar with moonphase, features a 24-hour hand to indicate a second time-zone. Available in either a red-gold variant with an opaline dial or a stainless steel, white dialed version, the Villeret Quantième Complet GMT is a classic timepiece for the sophisticated, yet aesthetically conscious globetrotter.
The traditionally round dial, set in a 40mm case displays the day of the week and the month through apertures and 12 o’clock, and the moonphase at 6 o’clock. A uniquely-shaped, serpentine hand points to the date and a red-tipped arrow hand shows the GMT hours. Leaf-shaped hands show the time.
The in-house, self-winding movement is visible through the sapphire crystal caseback and includes a 72-hour power reserve.
A significant aspect of the Villeret Quantième Complet GMT, is the absence of any correctors on the sides of the case. Such correctors are common in complete calendar watches, to ensure adjustment can be made to the calendar function as required. Blancpain, for the Villeret Quantième Complet GMT has employed the use of discreet correctors located under the lugs, creating a completely smooth case. This technique has been used previously for not GMT versions of complete calendar watches, but the Villeret Quantième Complet GMT is a first-of-its-kind complication.
Watch lovers can choose their Villeret Quantième Complet GMT with either a hand-rolled alligator leather strap, or a striking metal bracelet, in a colour that matches the case. The bracelet of the red-gold Villeret Quantième Complet GMT has a beautifully crafted beads of rice design, making this timepiece one to watch out for.
