The latest season of Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 witnessed an unprecedented phenomenon. The mega fashion event in Mumbai played host to the transition of Architect Pinakin Patel as a fashion designer. Having established his brand name in the luxury furniture space, Patel brings his aesthetic sense to couture designing.
His collection was titled A Midsummer’s Night Dream, which like the Shakespearean play, dwelled deep into fantasies. The play of rich fabrics such as tussar georgettes, airy chiffons and silk organzas was fantastically portrayed on flowy silhouettes. High waisted pearl embellished skirt was teamed with a feminine cropped 3D textured top. Different versions of the sari drapes were tried to bring out the modern aesthetic of the collection. Patel had made use of intricate hand-crafted embroidery and unique elements like plastics, feathers and laser-cut metalwork to make his debut collection a memorable one. The colour palette moved from cool pastels to yellow gold and greys. Adding a typical Pinakin touch to each ensemble was the floral and fabric hair accessory made by the designer himself.
The presentation of the collection was as impressive as the garments and reiterated the theme of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream.’
