A mechanical watch made by A. Lange & Söhne has won the ‘Watch of the Year’ contest on the website www.timezone.com. It is for the third time that the brand has been selected by one of the world’s largest community of wristwatch enthusiasts to be the watch of the year. Different brand forums nominated seven models at www.timezone.com and the Zeitwerk Minute Repeater received 25% of the community votes.
The Repeater combines a mechanical jumping numerals display with a decimal minute repeater for the first time. It sounds the hours, ten-minute intervals, and minutes with a low-pitched tone for each elapsed hour, a double tone for each elapsed ten-minute period, and a high-pitched tone for each elapsed minute. The model has received two awards in the past – it won the SIAR Premio Tiempo de Relojes competition and became a ‘Champion of Time’ in China. Zeitwerk and Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar by A. Lange & Söhne has won awards in the past by www.timezone.com.
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater was also named Technical Star of the year in the Watchstars Awards 2015/2016. The jury panel, comprising 51 international watch experts, was impressed with the outstanding reinterpretation of the complication. The independent watch prize is awarded in five categories. Only jury members may nominate models and cast votes. The award was announced at Baselworld show.
Walter Lange received the jury’s honorary prize for his lifetime achievements by the Armbanduhren magazine and the weekly newspaper Welt am Sonntag at Baselworld. The prize recognised Lange’s role in the renaissance of the watch industry in Glashütte after Germany was reunified. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The success of our watches is the biggest honour for me.”
In a luxury brand ranking organised by Wirtschaftswoche, a weekly German business magazine, A. Lange & Söhne scored 247 out of 300 points, making it the top ranking luxury brand among Germany’s 30 leading luxury brands in 2016. The brand has won this award for the fifth time in a row. The ranking is commissioned by Wirtschaftswoche every two years and compiled by Markenberatung Biesalski & Company as well as brandnetworks, a brand evaluator. It is based on a survey of more than 180 industry experts and polls four criteria: reputation, quality, design and price positioning.
“The result of the survey reasserts our lofty aspirations and is an incentive for the future,” said Wilhelm Schmid, CEO, A. Lange & Söhne.
